Donna and I are going to be grandparents!
This is wonderful news for us, as it will be our first grandchild (we already know it will be a grand-daughter) through Donna's son and his beautiful better half. The reason I bring this up is because this happy event is the catalyst for our September 2014 trip to WDW.......and the focus of this blog.
You see when we got home from our WDW vacation in May 2013 we were so happy with the trip we wanted to start planning another. We thought something a bit different would be fun so we began discussing a cruise..........a Disney Cruise. By August 2013 we booked a cruise on the Disney Dream for early May of 2014. Shortly after doing this we received the news about our new arrival. We also learned this little bundle of pink joy would be arriving pretty much around the same time we were cruising off to Castaway Cay.
Donna was torn, she didn't want to be sailing the Atlantic and be unable to get notice regarding her first grandchild, and neither did I. For several weeks the concept of the cruise stayed afloat........mostly because we'd already booked and paid a deposit. Then in the middle of September Ms. D blurted out her discomfort with being away during that time. Ironically, I was also having doubts but for a very different reason. I was worried about paying for the mid-May trip in what would be a tight timeframe for us financially. Something had to give. So I began to consider cancelling our trip.
The thought of not having a vacation to look forward to made us both so sad. We really were looking forward to the cruise, a first for us both. Donna and I had such a wonderful time at WDW we both wanted something Disney-esque to look forward to. So I began to consider a modification to our plan. My first task was to ensure I would be able to re-coup the deposit we'd paid for the cruise. I contacted out Travel Agent, and she said we could get a 100% refund because we were within the cancellation window. So it was done!
This is where Planning Disney begins......................
